The season wrapped up with a 20-4 triumph for the Fredericton Simpson Royals (10-18) over the Saint John AJ’s Alpines (13-15) Aug. 15 at Royals Field and a 3-1 win for the Moncton Dixie Lee Mets (10-18) over the Alpines Aug. 13 at Kiwanis Park.
The Alpines have locked up third place and a date with the second-ranked Chatham Miramichi Honda Ironmen (18-10) in the best-of-seven league semifinals, which will begin after the top-seed Charlottetown Gaudet’s Auto Body Islanders (19-9) return from the 2025 Baseball Canada Men’s National Championships from Thursday to Sunday in Regina, Sask.
The Islanders were the regular-season champs for the third straight year and will represent the senior circuit at nationals for the second consecutive year. The 2025 league champion will get first dibs on affiliates for next year’s nationals, which the Ironmen are hosting.
After playing in this year’s national tournament, Charlottetown will take on the winner of the miniseries between the Royals and Mets. Game 1 is Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. in Moncton, and Game 2 is Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Fredericton. If needed, Game 3 is set for Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hub City.
The Chatham O’Donaghue’s Junior Ironmen suffered a lopsided loss after resuming the New Brunswick Junior Baseball League playoffs, suffering a 19-9 setback at the hands of the Saint John Doiron Sports Junior Alpines in Game 1 of the best-of-five league final Sunday at Memorial Field.
The series is tied at one game apiece after Chatham won the second contest 12-2 Monday at Ironmen Field.
Game 3 is Wednesday at Memorial Field and Game 4 is Thursday in Miramichi. A date for Game 5, if needed, hasn’t been determined yet.
The Woodstock Shiretowners and Grand Falls McCain Cataractes are each leading by a game in their respective Capital City Intermediate Baseball League playoff series as the post-season continues this week.
The Cataractes blanked the Fredericton Nissan Astros 6-0 in Game 1 of the best-of-five league semifinals Aug. 15 at Thompson Field. They lead the best-of-five series 1-0.
Game 2 was supposed to be played Sunday in Grand Falls, but was postponed to Tuesday at 8 p.m.
Game 3 is Thursday at 8:15 p.m. at Royals Field, followed by Game 4 Friday at 8 p.m. at Veterans Field. If necessary, Game 5 is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. in Grand Falls.
The Orioles downed the defending champ Shiretowners 17-0 in Game 1 of the other series Aug. 14 at the Dale Allen Field. The Shiretowners won 10-0 in Game 2 Sunday in Woodstock and took the third game 6-4 Monday at Royals Field to up 2-1 in the series.
The Dieppe Cardinals swept their Southern New Brunswick Baseball League semifinal series in three straight games, and the Saint John Mariners and Saint John Angels are deadlocked in the other series.
The Cardinals took Game 2 of their best-of-five showdown against the KV Red Sox by an 11-1 margin Aug. 14 at Lakeburn Park before defeating the Red Sox 17-11 Aug. 16 in Game 3 Aug. 16 at Wells Recreational Field.
Dieppe won the series opener 5-2 Aug. 12 at home.
In the other matchup, the Mariners and Angels are tied at one game apiece thanks to an 8-7 triumph for the Angels in Game 2 Aug. 14. The Mariners prevailed with a 7-2 victory in the first game Aug. 11.
The Angels earned a 9-1 victory in Game 3 Monday night. Game 4 was set for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The deciding game hasn’t been scheduled yet. All games in this series are at Memorial Field.
The Dalhousie McIntyre Refrigeration Dodgers and defending champ Tracadie Alpines are currently battling for Miramichi Valley Baseball League supremacy and seeding at next month’s intermediate A provincial tournament in Fredericton.
The Dodgers beat the Aigles 6-0 in the series opener Monday at home. Game 2 is Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Tracadie, followed by Game 3 Friday at 8 p.m. in Dalhousie and Game 4 Aug. 25 at 8 p.m. in Tracadie.
If needed, the series will return to Dalhousie for Game 5 Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. Game 6 is slated for Aug. 29 at 8 p.m. in Tracadie, with the deciding contest set for Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. in Dalhousie, if required.
The series winner will earn the league championship and a higher seed at provincials.
