For the Alpines (11-5), three of those wins came last week, including an 11-3 triumph over the Moncton Dixie Lee Mets July 9 at Kiwanis Park, a 12-3 win over the Fredericton Simpson Royals July 11 at Royals Field, and a 12-7 victory over the Ironmen (10-8) in the second game of a doubleheader July 12 at Memorial Field.
Chatham took the first game of the doubleheader by a 9-6 margin. The Ironmen also defeated the Mets (6-12) 4-2 July 10 at Ironmen Field.
The Mets blanked the Royals (3-9) 7-0 Sunday at Kiwanis Park.
The Ironmen and Alpines will rematch Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Miramichi. Chatham will also host the Mets again Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
The two-time defending champ Charlottetown Gaudet’s Auto Body Islanders (10-6) will hit the field Saturday for the first time since July 6 as they host the Royals in a doubleheader at 2 and 5 p.m. at Victoria Park.
The Islanders and Royals will also play a doubleheader July 20 at 1 and 4 p.m. in Charlottetown.
Two of the three games in the New Brunswick Junior Baseball League last week involved the Metro Mudcats of Moncton, who won both contests.
The Mudcats (9-4) downed the Fredericton Simpson Junior Royals (6-9) 4-3 July 7 at Kiwanis Park and 8-3 July 10 at Royals Field.
The Chatham O’Donaghue’s Junior Ironmen (5-12) toppled the Royals 11-4 July 9 at Ironmen Field.
As the regular season enters the home stretch, the Royals and Mudcats will meet again Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Hub City. The Mudcats will visit the league-leading Saint John Doiron Sports Alpines (10-5) Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday’s games will include the Alpines and Mudcats at 7:30 p.m. in Moncton and the Ironmen and Royals at 7:30 p.m. in Fredericton.
Chatham will be in Saint John for a doubleheader Saturday, with games at 1 and 4 p.m. at Memorial Field.
The Grand Falls McCain Cataractes (12-1) have started a new winning streak in Capital City Intermediate Baseball League play, blasting the Oromocto Veteran Farmer Pioneers (0-11) in a doubleheader July 12 at Deer Park.
The Cataractes took the first contest 20-0 and the second game 18-0.
Meanwhile, the Devon Boys Lawn Care Orioles (7-6) downed the Pioneers 14-4 July 8 in Oromocto. The defending champ Woodstock Shiretowners (9-4) blanked the Fredericton Nissan Astros (5-7) 3-0 July 8 at Royals Field, and the Astros downed the Fredericton Launchpad Sports Expos (4-8) 7-6 July 10 at Fisher Field.
Grand Falls will take on the Expos Monday at 6 p.m. at Royals Field, and the Astros and Orioles will meet Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Royals Field. The Orioles and Astros will face off Thursday at 6 p.m. at Fisher Field, and Woodstock will be in Grand Falls Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The past week in the Southern New Brunswick Baseball League featured eight games in four days, with the Saint John Angels (6-5-1) thumping the KV Red Sox (7-7) 16-4 July 9 at Wells Recreational Field and the Dieppe Cardinals (12-2) edging the Saint John Mariners (6-6-1) 6-5 July 10 at Lakeburn Park.
The Mariners doubled the Hampton Guardians (4-9-2) 4-2 July 11 in Hampton. The Red Sox toppled the Lancaster Stingrays (3-9) 18-16 in a slugfest July 11 at the Senior Lions Field before the Guardians defeated the Stingrays 15-2 July 12 in Grand Bay-Westfield.
The Mariners beat the Cardinals 8-6 July 12 in Rothesay, the Stingrays downed the Guardians 6-3 at Senior Lions Field, and the Angels tripped the Mariners 8-5. The Cardinals earned a 14-4 victory over the Mariners Sunday at Memorial Field.
The Cardinals and Angels will meet Monday at 6:15 p.m. at Memorial Field. The Red Sox and Mariners will hit the field for a 6:15 p.m. showdown in Rothesay. KV and Lancaster will do battle Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. at Wells Recreational Field, the Guardians and Mariners will play Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Field, and the Red Sox and Cardinals are slated for a 7:30 p.m. date at Lakeburn Park.
Other games will feature the Cardinals and Guardians Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Hampton, the Mariners and Stingrays in a doubleheader Saturday at noon and 3 p.m. in Grand Bay-Westfield, and the Angels and Mariners July 20 at Memorial Field.
The Newcastle A&B Lumber Cardinals (7-4-1) are on top of the Miramichi Valley Baseball League after the first full week of July, but first and fourth place are only separated by two games, and the second and third-ranked clubs are one-and-a-half games back.
The Cardinals beat the defending champ Tracadie Aigles (5-5-1) 3-1 July 10 on the road and 2-1 July 11 at home. Meanwhile, the Chatham Head Tigers (5-6-1) defeated the Dalhousie Dodgers (7-3-3) 6-0 July 8 at home before falling 9-8 to the Dodgers July 9 and 12-1 to Dalhousie July 11 on the road.
The Aigles edged the Tigers 4-3 Sunday in Chatham Head.
The Tigers and Cardinals will renew acquaintances Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Newcastle will host Dalhousie Wednesday at 8 p.m. The Tigers will be in Tracadie Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and the Aigles and Dodgers will meet Friday at 8 p.m. in Dalhousie.
Tracadie will be in Chatham Head July 20 at 7 p.m.
