The New Brunswick Senior Baseball League’s five teams will each look to finish strong as the 2025 regular season approaches the finish line.

As of Tuesday, the league-leading Chatham Miramichi Honda Ironmen (18-9) have one game remaining. They’ll host the two-time defending champs, the Charlottetown Gaudet’s Auto Body Islanders (16-9), Thursday at 8 p.m. at Ironmen Field.

The Fredericton Simpson Royals (7-17) have four games left to play, including a home-and-home beginning Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against the Saint John AJ’s Alpines (12-10) at Royals Field and Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Field. The Royals will entertain the Moncton Dixie Lee Mets (9-17) Friday at 7:30 p.m. before hosting the Alpines again Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

The Alpines will visit the Islanders for a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m. at Victoria Park. Saint John and Moncton will meet Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Kiwanis Park.

Junior post-season in full swing

The Saint John Doiron Sports Alpines and Chatham O’Donaghue’s Junior Ironmen each lead their respective New Brunswick Junior League semifinal series 2-0 after winning their first two playoff games last week.

The Alpines blanked the Fredericton Simpson Junior Royals 10-0 in their series opener July 30 at Memorial Field before taking Game 2 by an 8-4 margin July 31 at Royals Field. The Ironmen beat Moncton’s Metro Mudcats 5-1 in the first game of the other series July 31 at Kiwanis Park and won the second game 4-0 Aug. 1 in Miramichi.

Neither series has had its next games scheduled yet. The junior playoffs will likely resume when the Mudcats return from the 2025 Baseball Canada 22-and-Under Championship, which runs from Thursday to Sunday in Dartmouth, N.S.

Four teams in Round 1 of Capital City playoffs

The Grand Falls McCain Cataractes (17-3) and defending champ Woodstock Shiretowners (13-5) clinched first-round byes after the Capital City Intermediate Baseball League’s 2025 campaign, leaving the Devon Boys Lawn Care Orioles (11-9), Fredericton Launchpad Sports Expos (8-10), Fredericton Nissan Astros (6-13), and Oromocto Veteran Farmer Pioneers (1-16) to duke it out in the quarterfinals.

The Orioles and Pioneers will kick off their best-of-three series Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. at Fisher Field, with Game 2 set for Thursday at 6:15 p.m. at Royals Field. If needed, Game 3 is Aug. 11 at 8:15 p.m. at Royals Field.

The Astros and Expos’ matchup starts Thursday at 8:15 p.m. at Royals Field, with Game 2 slated for Aug. 11 at 6:15 p.m. at Royals Field. Game 3 is Aug. 12 at 6:15 p.m. at Fisher Field, if required.

The lowest remaining seed after the quarterfinals will face Grand Falls in the semifinals. The highest remaining seed will play Woodstock.

Southern N.B. playoff showdowns

The Dieppe Cardinals (15-4-1) and Saint John Angels (12-7-1) each clinched first-round byes after the Southern New Brunswick Baseball League’s regular season, and the Saint John Mariners (11-8-1), KV Red Sox (10-10), Hampton Guardians (4-13-3), and Lancaster Stingrays (5-15) are currently in the best-of-three quarterfinals.

The Mariners edged the Stingrays 7-6 in Game 1 of their series Monday at Memorial Field, and the Red Sox downed the Guardians 4-3 at Wells Recreational Field.

Game 2 between the Mariners and Stingrays is Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Memorial Field. The Red Sox and Guardians will play their second game Thursday at 6:15 p.m. in Hampton.

The highest remaining seed will face the Angels in the semis, and the lowest seed after Round 1 will land a date with Dieppe.

Miramichi Valley playoff matchups set

All four teams in the Miramichi Valley Baseball League have made the playoffs after another airtight regular season, and the first round will feature a rematch between last year’s finalists.

The second-place Newcastle A&B Lumber Cardinals (9-8-1) and defending champ Tracadie Aigles (9-9) will meet in a best-of-seven semifinal series starting Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Newcastle. Game 2 is Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Tracadie, with Game 3 being played Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Newcastle and Game 4 set for Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Tracadie.

If needed, Game 5 is Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Newcastle, with Game 6 slated for Aug. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Tracadie. Game 7 is scheduled for Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Newcastle, if necessary.

Meanwhile, the top-ranked Dalhousie Dodgers (10-5-3) will take on the fourth-seed Chatham Head Tigers (8-8-2) in the other semifinal, which gets underway Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Dalhousie. Game 2 is Friday at 8 p.m. at the Waldo Henderson Memorial Field, followed by Game 3 Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. in Dalhousie and Game 4 Aug. 12 at 8 p.m. in Chatham Head.

If required, Game 5 is Aug. 14 at 8 p.m. in Dalhousie, with Game 6 Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. in Chatham Head. The series will return to Dalhousie for the deciding contest Aug. 19 at 8 p.m., if needed.

The series winners will meet in the best-of-seven league final and advance to provincials next month in Fredericton, with the league champ getting the higher seed at the six-team tournament.
